Hand-free Radiography

9. marts 2027

Location: Veterinær Akademiet Vest, Solbakken 26, 6500 Vojens

This one-day course is for everyone who works with radiography in veterinary practice and would like to strengthen their knowledge of hands-free radiography in dogs and cats. During the course, you will learn how to obtain high-quality diagnostic images without manually restraining the patient, while improving radiation safety for both staff and patients.

How do you achieve correct positioning without holding the patient? Which positioning aids are most useful in different situations? And how can you minimise positioning errors and reduce the need for repeat exposures?

The course combines theory, case discussions and practical exercises with a focus on positioning, image quality and radiation safety. You will gain practical tools and techniques that can easily be implemented in everyday clinical practice.

The practical session will provide hands-on experience with positioning techniques and the use of positioning aids. There will be plenty of opportunity for questions, professional discussion and exchange of experiences with both the lecturer and fellow participants.

Join us for an inspiring day focused on practical solutions that can be implemented immediately to improve both radiation safety and radiographic quality in your clinic.

The course is taught by Lisa Friling, a European Specialist in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging and founder of VetAcad. Lisa has extensive experience in radiation safety and hands-free radiography and works clinically with diagnostic imaging and teleradiology.

You will learn about:

  • Radiation safety – the principles of hands-free radiography and the benefits of avoiding manual restraint
  • Positioning aids – how to use foam wedges, sandbags, tape, troughs and other positioning equipment effectively
  • Positioning techniques – standard skeletal, thoracic and abdominal projections in dogs and cats
  • Image quality – recognising positioning errors, evaluating radiographs and reducing repeat exposures
  • Sedation considerations – when and how sedation can support successful hands-free positioning
