February 1-2 2027
Location: Veterinær Akademiet Øst, Roskildevej 22, Albertslund
This course is designed to provide veterinarians with a thorough understanding of the pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of cardiac diseases in dogs and cats. You will start by reviewing the current recommendations for common acquired heart diseases, before moving on to cover cardiac emergencies and the management of haemodynamically unstable patients. This course will provide an update across the range of cardiology conditions likely to be encountered in small animal practice. “Top tips” will be provided to help you get the most out of the history and physical examination in dogs and cats with suspected cardiac disease.
A key focus will be on understanding the diagnosis and treatment of the common acquired cardiac diseases, in particular myxomatous mitral valve disease and dilated cardiomyopathy in dogs and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in cats. You will also consider how a Spectrum of Care approach can be applied to these cases.
Additionally, you will explore the pathophysiology, diagnosis and management of congenital heart disease. The management of clinically unstable patients will also be considered, including acute congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, myocarditis and endocarditis and how to differentiate syncope vs seizures. Interactive sessions will enable you to put your skills to the test.
By the end of the course you will have a thorough knowledge of current evidence-based management strategies for canine and feline cardiac diseases, understand how to manage cardiac emergencies and be equipped to develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans that are tailored to the needs of your clients and patients.
