Diagnostic Workup of Patients with Hematologic Disorders in Clinical Practice

Through lectures and case-based learning, participants will gain a systematic approach to diagnosing patients with conditions such as anemia, inflammation, coagulopathies, and malignancies.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be well-equipped to manage patients with anemia in general practice.

The course includes:

  • Fundamental knowledge of hematopoiesis and blood cell physiology
  • An overview of how hematology analyzers work and how to interpret the data they provide
  • Insight into the diagnostic capabilities available in an in-house laboratory
  • In-depth knowledge of how to classify and evaluate different types of anemia
  • A structured approach to working up patients with anemia regardless of etiology, along with treatment considerations
  • Tools for evaluating inflammation – understanding how the hemogram, manual differential count, and acute phase proteins interact
  • Advanced knowledge of the coagulation cascade, including primary, secondary, and tertiary hemostasis, as well as disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC)
  • Practical approaches to diagnosing coagulopathies in clinical practice
  • Knowledge of leukemia and lymphoma in dogs and cats – including available diagnostic methods for their investigation
  • A wide range of real-life case examples
